We love our home in its country setting but require a larger master suite, attached garage and workshop area for my woodworking hobby.

The challenge is to coordinate the addition appearance with the rest of the house and maximize the views to the west and the southwest.

Another challenge is that preservation of the family room view requires locating the garage on the SouthEast side of the house. But that places the master suite between the garage and the rest of the house.

Project Task: Addition of Rooms to Existing House

Affordability of the design is important. I plan to do more than half of the labor myself.

Our home, including the enlarged master bedroom has/will have 5-inch, oak, solid wood flooring. The interior is drywall with oak trim and baseboards. The exterior of the house is horizontal cedar siding with Anderson windows.

The existing house is a modest (2100 sqft) size but seems to have an excessive amount of space tied up in hallways. We wish there were less hallways and more storage space.

The existing home is frame construction, has a 3' crawl space and no attic. There is very little storage space.
